Chapter Three: My Storybook Favorites

Today I read several different stories. While all had basically the same characters, they all had a different storyline. In each story each character had different backgrounds and perspectives. What I loved the most was that each author had such interesting ideas for their stories.

The first one was called Epic Women tell all. This story gives the perspective of three different women in their classic stories. It’s also in the form of a television show like Ellen. It goes in order of Kaikeyi, Sita, and Amba, each one telling their side of the story and why they did what they did. Ultimately, one these women told their side, people began to be more understanding as to why they made their decisions and also I think question why each woman was portrayed as sort of a villain. It’s a great read with an amazing feminist twist. Here’s a link https://sites.google.com/site/nicolesindianepicsstorybook/home

The next story was called I believe CSI: Indian Epics. This story is an interesting take on the death of the three men from what I believe are the same stories as the women. It begins with a diary that reads “ if you are reading this it means I am dead”. The diary contains notes of a CSI investigating the deaths of Drona, Karna, and Bhishma. The notes are also incredibly organized and well written. In the last entry ,we find out that all the deaths were linked and that the men who died got their karma. Here’s a link to that story as well https://sites.google.com/site/csiindianepics/introduction

The last story has more of an adventurous take on the life of Rama. We are told that Rama is the reincarnation of Vishnu, and the first one that is destined to be king. Throughout the story we see how the gods have a hand in Rama’s destiny. Creating opportunities, taking them away, like it was mentioned in the story, the gods were creating this sort of drama that they could all watch. This one was incredibly interesting to read. (Here’s a photo I found. I think it’s quite charming. It’s a piece done by Albert Anker. It’s description is “grandfather telling a story” found on Wikimedia)
